A Charlevoix Story Since 1885

From Grist Mill to Gathering Place

Long before Weathervane became a Charlevoix restaurant, this site was home to the Argo Mill, built in 1885 along the Pine River Channel. The working grist mill connected local agriculture with Charlevoix’s busy waterfront, establishing a relationship between this property, the community and the water that continues today.

A Charlevoix Story Since 1885

Reimagined by Earl Young

In 1954, celebrated Charlevoix builder Earl Young transformed the former mill into the Weathervane Inn. He removed the upper stories while preserving the original foundation and main-floor timbers, then reshaped the building with the stonework and unconventional architecture that became signatures of his work throughout Charlevoix.

For more than 70 years, generations of locals and visitors have gathered at Weathervane along the Pine River Channel. Today, the restaurant carries that history forward as a place to dine, celebrate and gather on the Charlevoix waterfront.
